For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed out from faith to faith
Subjective genitive: righteousness that God imputes on the believer is His righteousness
Objective genitive: the righteousness that stands before God
Genitive of source/origin: righteousness that comes from God
Is revealed from faith to faith
Paul, all of a sudden makes a severe movement – He has been talking about the unbeliever
coming to God, having righteousness of God
but he suddenly moves to believer
Paul now introduces the Two part Plan of God
In vs 17, Paul moves from how the unbeliever is saved to how a believer lives!
How the unbeliever reveals the righteousness of God to how the believer reveals the righteousness of God.
1. Righteousness is not out from law
Gal. 3:21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based ek out from law.
2. Righteousness is not through law
Gal. 2:21 “I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."
Dia nomou through or by means of the Law
While the gospel reveals the righteousness of God, the Law reveals the wrath of God.
3. Righteousness is not out from works
Gal. 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works ek not out of works of the Law but through dia through, by means of faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by ek out from faith in Christ, and not by ek out from the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.
4. Righteousness required by God is not out own righteousness
Rom. 10:3 For not knowing about God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
1. Righteousness is not out from law
2. Righteousness is not through law
3. Righteousness is not out from works don’t be impressed or depresse
4. Righteousness required by God is not out own righteousness
Without the Law
Without works
Not our own
Now for a vs that puts this together
Phil. 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived ek out from the Law, self Righteousness by works, performance but that Righteousness which is dia through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes out from ek God on the basis of faith,
Not my own righteousness out from or obeying Law for the Law cannot impart righteousness
But a righteousness that comes by faith in Christ
This righteousness that comes by faith comes from God
Righteousness required by God is by faith in Jesus Christ.
This righteousness comes to us, imputed to us from God on basis of faith
This righteousness is a gift of God
Rom. 5:17 For if by the transgression of the one, Adam death reigned through the one, passed on much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
This Righteousness is by the grace of God
Gal. 2:21 "I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."
God the Father graciously gives or imputes the gift of Righteousness by means of faith in Jesus Christ because we are Righteous in Jesus Christ
2 Cor. 5:21 He God the Father made Him Jesus Christ His Son,who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, cross that, in order that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
We are righteous in Jesus Christ
1. Righteousness is not out from law
2. Righteousness is not through law
3. Righteousness is not out from works
4. Righteousness required by God is not out own righteousness
Without the Law
Without works
Not our own
5. Not my own righteousness out from or obeying Law
Job 4:17 see that word just? that is word to be right or righteous,
This question is fundamental to our relationship with God – unbeliever or believer
9:2 same word as in 4:17, only this time they translated it correctly: right or righteous
14:4 This time we have the word clean to accompany righteous.
Being clean is no contamination
15:14 pure –pure Righteousness---
Righteous & this is same word we have seen all along because it states the problem of man being reconciled with God: Righteousness
25:4 be just well, this is same word again…Righteous
